Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED)______________________________________
ANED’s membership comprises the eleven electricity distribution companies in Nigeria. Its services cover a wide range of areas, including advocacy on behalf of its members in government, legislative, and regulatory matters; raising consumer awareness on electricity supply issues (such as safety, connection and disconnection procedures, and bill payments); promoting industry safety and service delivery standards; and offering training opportunities for members.
Pre-Privatization (1999-2013)
- The Nigerian government initiated plans to reform the power sector, aiming to increase efficiency and attract private investment.
- The Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) was enacted in 2005, paving the way for privatization.

In November 2013, the Nigerian government completed the privatization of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN)’s generation (GENCO) and distribution (DISCO) segments, while retaining the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) as a government-owned corporation. Under the privatization structure, 60% of the equity was allocated to core investors, and 40% to the government, which was managed by the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

The new owners of the DisCos recognized the need for a unified voice to represent their interests and address common challenges.
- The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) was established in 2015 with the primary mandate of representing the interests of the Distribution Companies (DisCos) and advocating for policies that foster the growth and sustainability of the Nigerian electricity sector. As part of its activities, a roundtable discussion was convened to address the common challenges faced by the DisCos and to explore collective solutions, particularly in shaping policies that advance the sector’s development.
