Our History

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) evolved from the “DisCo Roundtable,” an informal group of the electricity distribution company operators, which was established post-handover of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) successor Distribution Companies (DisCo), in the early part of 2014. Subsequently, the “DisCo Roundtable” was incorporated as ANED in January 2015, with a membership of the eleven (11) PHCN successor DisCos in the country.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) is the umbrella organization representing the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria. ANED advocates for policies that improve power distribution, engages stakeholders, and works to enhance service delivery to electricity consumers nationwide.

ANED represents all 11 licensed Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria, including:

  • Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

  • Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC)

  • Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC)

  • Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)

  • Ikeja Electric (IE)

  • Others across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

ANED collaborates with DisCos, regulators (like NERC), and the government to improve grid reliability, metering, and fair billing. Initiatives include:

  • Supporting the National Mass Metering Program (NMMP).

  • Advocating for infrastructure upgrades.

  • Promoting consumer education on energy usage and dispute resolution.

ANED supports the phasing out of estimated billing and promotes widespread prepaid meter deployment to ensure transparency. The association works with DisCos and regulators to accelerate metering under schemes like MAP (Meter Asset Provider) and NMMP.

While ANED does not handle individual complaints directly, consumers should:

  1. First contact their local DisCo’s customer service.

  2. Escalate unresolved issues to NERC (Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission).

  3. Follow ANED’s updates on policy changes via official channels (website, social media, or press releases).
